Deisseroth’s team introduces a polymer chemistry-based method of building hydrogels within cells of intact biological tissues. This approach enabled a range of related techniques (initially CLARITY, followed by STARmap and hybridization/expansion methods), allowing structures as complex as intact brain circuitry to be made transparent, reshaped, mapped, and annotated.
